Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai, a visionary scientist and institution builder, is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space program. He was instrumental in establishing the physical research infrastructure for the newly independent India. After his studies at Cambridge University, he returned to India with a profound conviction that the nation must harness advanced technologies for its development. This belief led him to establish the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad in 1947, which became the cradle of space sciences in India. Sarabhai's most enduring legacy is the creation of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), which he masterfully steered, laying the foundation for India's remarkable achievements in space technology and its application for the common good.
