Kolkata, Apr 17: JIS Group today inaugurated the JIS Drone Academy – RPTO, West Bengal’s First and Largest University Based DGCA–authorized, Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) and UAV ecosystem enabler, at its SurTech Campus, at Dum Dum, Kolkata.
The academy was formally inaugurated in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group, Smt. Mahua B. Adhikary, General Manager (Air Traffic Management), Eastern Region, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Kolkata; Shri. Suman Chandra Halder, Joint GM (ATM), AAI, Kolkata; Shri. Goutam Roy, Joint GM (ATM), AAI; Shri. Sangam Kumar Chaturvedi, Team Lead, C-DAC, Government of India; Smt. Anindita Ganguly, Director of Technical Education, Government of West Bengal; Shri. Bikram Kumar Das, Regional Head (East), National Skill Development Corporation and Sardar Simarpreet Singh, Director, JIS Group.
This milestone marks the launch of the state’s First and Largest University Based DGCA–authorized Remote Pilot Training Centre offering DGCA-aligned Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) programmes for Micro and Small category drones. The academy is a comprehensive hub for advanced drone training, certification, research, and industry collaboration, aimed at developing a skilled workforce of licensed drone professionals.
Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, professional-grade drones, and advanced simulation systems, the academy will adopt a hybrid training model that integrates classroom instruction, hands-on flight training, and industry-oriented learning along with industry collaboration with EduRade and Megh Robotics.
The JIS Drone Academy will offer specialized programmes in drone surveying and mapping, drone repair and maintenance, drone forensics, drone design and fabrication, GIS data processing, and aeromodelling along with the DGCA Authorized Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) . These programmes are designed to support rapidly expanding applications across sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, aerial Survey, mapping, surveillance, disaster management, logistics, and media.
The inauguration event also featured live demonstrations of UAV applications and student-built customized drones, highlighting the academy’s strong emphasis on practical, real-world training.
