Hyderabad-based drone developer Thanos Technologies recently marked a significant milestone with the successful demonstration of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-integrated weapon platform that conducted in-flight test firing.
Founded in 2016 by entrepreneurs and drone technologists Pradeep Palelli and Prathyush Akepati, the startup initially focused on aerial surveying and drone-based services before pivoting toward designing and manufacturing indigenous UAV platforms for agriculture, surveillance, logistics, and specialised industrial applications.
The founders invested heavily in research and development, building in-house expertise in airframe design, flight control systems, payload integration, battery technologies, and autonomous operations. This approach allowed the startup to develop products tailored to Indian operating conditions while reducing dependence on imported drone platforms.
The company's best-known commercial offering is the SYENA-H10 agricultural spraying drone, an autonomous UAV platform designed to improve farm productivity and precision agriculture.
The drone incorporates GPS guidance, radar-assisted navigation, and autonomous flight capabilities to enable efficient crop spraying while reducing water consumption, chemical wastage, and labour requirements.
Beyond agriculture, Thanos has developed expertise in surveillance drones, delivery drones, payload delivery platforms, aerial surveying solutions, custom UAV manufacturing, and drone services. The company has consistently highlighted its ability to design and build drones in India, giving it greater control over performance optimisation, maintenance, and future upgrades.
